FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: International Visions Gallery is thrilled to announce the Bombay Sapphire and Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation national competition, The ARTISAN SERIES, which will showcase the top 33 contestants from the D.C., Virginia and Maryland area from October 8th – November 5th, 2011. The winner of this competition will be announced at the Opening Reception October 8th, 2011 6:30-9pm and will continue on to the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series Finale Competition taking place at Art Basel in Miami, Florida in December 2011.

Bombay Sapphire Gin and Russell and Danny Simmons’ Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation are partnering in the creation of a nationwide art competition, Artisan Series. The project aims to discover the next big names in both urban photography and multi-media arts, and to celebrate today’s diverse up-and-coming artists on a national stage.

This October, International Visions Gallery will serve as the Washington, DC exhibition space for 33 finalists’ works, selected by a jury panel. Artists in this exhibition include Michael Anthony Brown, Zoma Wallace, Shaunté Gates, Julian Lytle, Farah Ahmed, Rob Chester, Edward Savwoir, Miles Burrell, Osereime J. Aimua, David Allen Harris, Cheryl Edwards, Jay Coleman, S. Ross Brown, Al Burts, Nicole Marshall, Ann Marie Williams, Victor Ekpuk, George Kochev, Eusebio Choque, Cedric Baker, Jesi Pace-Berkeley, Larry Cook, Michael Singletary, Jamea Richmond-Edwards, Leonard Harris, Lawrence Charity, Helina Metaferia, Stephen Evans, Keah Fryar, Richard Thompson, Donivan York, W. James Taylor, and Tanekeya Word.

Other galleries collaborating with The Artisan Series are as follows: Atlanta, GA – Mason Murer, Chicago, IL – Gallery Guichard, San Francisco, CA – Claude Lane Gallery; Miami, FL – Miguel Paredes; Houston, TX – The Houston Museum of African American Culture; New York, NY – Rush Arts Gallery and Dallas, TX – Dallas African American Museum.

Across all markets, a total of twenty artists will advance to the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series Finale Competition exhibition, held during Art Basel Miami Beach in December 2011. From that group, two finalists will be invited to exhibit at Rush Arts Gallery in New York City in February 2012 (www.rushartsgallery.org).
